ABC's Four Corners has an interesting episode about cybercrime and how it can affect ordinary people. Check it out on iView: http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/419222. (The program's victims were a little unsympathetic in my opinion, but they remain good examples of people who have been victimised by cybercriminals.)
The program doesn't go into much detail about what you can do to lessen the likelihood of becoming a victim of these attacks. There are lots of basic things you can do, but the easiest one to remember is this: read SANS Ouch, a monthly newsletter for ordinary computer users. Subscribe to their monthly email update and the newsletter will come to you. Read it carefully and take the steps that it recommends quickly. When you first sign up, read the past year's episodes to see what you've missed out on.
